08.16.2018: Reflection Questions-
- How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
- How did it extend your thinking further?
- What questions do you still have?
- Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

I've had teachers who move around the class but never thought about how it is a signal for students that the teacher is in control and observing and tracking. I'll be more mindful of my movements in the classroom because of that lesson.
ReplyDeleteI could definitely apply the concept of circulating and threshold engagement to being a success coach. It will help me affirm scholars
ReplyDeleteTeach like a champion session was a good refresher on a lot of things but also a lot of added info that was very helpful to use in the classroom to be an effective success coach. I’m glad I was informed about the book! It will be a great purchase for my teaching career!
ReplyDeleteI learned a new way to track my students. Rather than just watching them, I supposed to actually circulate the room and allow the students to know I’m attentive and I know what’s going on in the class.
ReplyDeleteI don’t have previous classes or experience teaching so a lot of the stuff we learned today was really helpful. For example, the basics help me think of the different ways to ask questions and get the scholars engaged.
ReplyDeleteToday when we worked on the specific moves to keep students alert it was very interesting. I didn’t know that those things were so intentional.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I’ve learned today is to use my brighter face. I am a person that usually doesn’t pay attention to my facial expressions. Being a success coach it is best to learn to control my facial expressions and be mindful that the students are watching. I want the students to look at me and see that I’m happy to be in the classroom working with them. Keeping a positive attitude will keep a positive environment.
ReplyDeleteThe classroom etiquette session we learned about cirulating and it’s important. I also work for the CAAS department on campus and often times I do not have full control of the athletes during study hall when I’m by myself. Today’s lesson will help assist me with gaining their attention and keeping them on track. Also we learned that saying “please” and “thank you” firmly can still be polite but as well as affirmative. Overall I believe this was the best session all week. The information can be applied elsewhere as well as to everyone’s individual life.
ReplyDeleteI learned the different ways to circulate around the classroom. I knew teachers did i it for a reason but I didn’t know it was a “real theory”. I also learned about the teach like a champion book that has all of these statergies in it.
ReplyDeleteI think learning the bright face is important, because as a mentor it's our job to build that repoire and if we always look angry than we can't do our job.
ReplyDeleteI learned the names that coincide with the actions I perform in the class so that I can sound more professional when I discuss teaching methods.
ReplyDeleteToday, I learned how to utilize many strategies in the classroom. We can use targeting questions, effective questions, and using “radar” with students to make sure everyone is their most productive and successful they can be.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting learning about different methods like opt out, right is right, and cold calling. They were things I remember seeing in high school, even now, but didn’t know they were actual things people kept in mind when running their class. The “dance moves” we learned in the last session was also fun because I’ve witnessed countless teachers actually do them. I’ll definitely keep those in mind when tracking students.
ReplyDeleteSomething new I learned today was centered around firm calm finesse. This strategy concentrates on managing emotions, using universal language, and saying please and thank you. Something I found interesting is balancing a firm tone while asking students to please do something. Though this is challenge, it is possible. It is important that us as success coaches be firm but also calm to create a positive classroom environment for the scholars.
ReplyDeleteToday has been nice very informative. My praise would be that the right amount and variety were given to scenarios. It seems like every time I go through this training there are always more TLCs for me to learn and incorporate them into the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI liked “circulate” and “make steps sticky.” Making learning topics stick takes some preparation but sets concepts in students’ minds for a very long time! Circulating engages students and makes sure that not only are students understanding, but that you are helping effectively.
ReplyDeleteAs usual today was so much fun. I enjoyed participating in the scenarios. In my opinion, the scenarios ensured our understanding of the concepts. I learned so many useful strategies such as: warm/strict, targeted questioning, tracking not watching, firm/calm finesse, no opt out, right is right, and joy factor we're a few teach like a champion strategies I have learned.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to ask better questions inside the classrom. For example, i learned how to rephrase the “Do everyone understand?” into a question like “Is there anyone who have questions?”
ReplyDeleteTeach Like A Champion: Emotional Mindset and Motivation Cluster. I was glad we went over these set. When they first introduced it, I was giving a presentation of my own, so I missed it. I really wanted to see what they where about, but I wish we had gotten through all of them and not just two.

I enjoyed the session on classrom etiquette. It was very informative. I learned the proper way to conduct myself in the classroom and how to be an effective teacher. These were things I noticed in school with my instructors but never really paid attention to. I also learned about the different teaching strategies such as Right is Right and Hold out for the Way. These techniques make learning more exciting and ensures the scholars success in the classroom.
