08.15.2018: Reflection Questions-

  • How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
  •  How did it extend your thinking further?
  •  What questions do you still have?
  •  Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

  1. It was nice to review the different courses. I had a lot of fun with the science section, and it was great to get experience with how to make it hands on for students. There was a lot of emphasis on connecting with students

  2. All three team leaders today did awesome and I learned two things I wasn’t so good at knowing. The equations Erika taught gave me a better understanding and she explained it very well. The example being hands on with building the eco system with Jaylen helped me understand her material a lot better as well.

  3. It was a nice refreshment on math equations today. I already was familiar with the steps, but the fact that each step was drawn out and it was expressed to complete was helpful. Not only did we solve for variable but we also completed the further steps for graphing. Today was very helpful and I received many mindful tips.

  4. I enjoyed seeing the different types of activities that can be done with our content. I feel like the tool box should be gone over more in depth than it was. Other than that today was highly successful, and thanks to all our team leaders who presented to us today.

  6. I think it's encouraging to know that we have the freedom to build those relationships with students. It's not all business all the time. I like that we can know them on a personal level and connect our experiences to make their learning personalized and more influential.

  7. I knew the basic building blocks of the relational mindset and how sharing interests and asking questions can help build relationships. And I’ve used the theory in other jobs involving youth. But I never thought about how that could transfer over into the educational setting or the importance of it in that setting. Or how improving those things with the students can help them achieve educational or other life goals.

  8. I learned all the ways that we can try to relate to the students so we can better help them for future teaching. One interesting thing about Peer Power is we are all an unique groups of scholars, and if there is something I might not know a lot about, I could always go to another scholar in Peer Power to ask for advice.

  9. The content we went over today was fun. They all had a different style and format, which is important to note the different ways a subject can be taught. Also we have to keep in mind Relational Learning as student learn through their relationships (others experiences) and how they interact with other people, mainly us as the success coach. That is why the content activities are important because students can interact and learn from each other.

  11. Being reminded of the different ways there are to build relationships and knowing what the benefits are helped me to really understand what it's means to empathize and impact the scholarship we work with each day. Also shout out to Sara, she perfectly gave an example of how beneficial it is to be known and to be able to relate to the students.

  13. I think it was great learning the foundation of more than just the subject we have preference to. It provides us with a good base to work with, so we’re well-rounded. The biggest takeaway today was on how we have to be able to relate to our students in order for them to have that trust in us as their mentors. I think that’s really important in order for students to be able to reciprocate the feeling of wanting to learn with us.

  15. I had a blast today! I really enjoyes each of the content based sessions conducted by the team leaders. I am glad we covered topics in each subject area, because I needed the refresher. Overall, I learned to keep an open mind, and to NEVER presume anything about a scholars situation.

  16. It was a nice day. I definitely learned more about the system of equations. I only new about substitution. I also learned how everything you read can have a deeper meaning and it can be related to the reader. This will make the students more excited about the text.

  17. Reveiwing math and science was great as an English coach. I tend to lack confidence in math due to negative experiences I’ve had. Working on equations today reminded me that I am very capable despite any negativity I have associated with the subject. This was a good reminder to me of how important it is for us as success coaches to provide students with successful experiences. That way they fully know they are capable, especially in subjects or concepts that they may have given up on.

  18. Something I learned today was that when serving as a success coach in an English classroom, the curriculum is going to focus more heavily on understanding the content. Furthermore, the students should be able to analyze and identify the main idea of a passage. Today's activities made me realize the importance of choosing content that will connect with the students and motivate them to learn.
