08.14.2018: Reflection Questions-
- How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
- How did it extend your thinking further?
- What questions do you still have?
- Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

Towards the end of our session we covered “imaginary audience” and I think it is important for success coaches to be mindful that there could be real audience. Just because we are mature and confident the students have not developed the same skills.
ReplyDeleteI learned to identify the different learning theories. I learned that sometimes when a student rejects the help, it’s because they might be afraid to look incompetent and not necessarily that they don’t want you to help.
ReplyDeleteThe educational theory portion I thought was really important, because it reflected how students thought and their thought processes, and what we as mentors ca. Do to meet them halfway and keep them wanting to learn.
ReplyDeleteI can apply Maslows Hierarchy of Needs by understanding that some of my students may not have some of their basic needs met. So, I need to be aware of these needs and how I can meet them and allow my students to be successful academically.
ReplyDeleteMIND MAPPING. It will save me when I take notes. A lots of theories that will help in real life situations and in the classrooms.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I learned that I could use in class is that some students aren’t as motivated as others in a classroom. As a succes coach I can monitor the students in class and figure out different ways to motivate them based off of their personal needs.
ReplyDeleteWe went over educational strategies and theories. This connected to the thinks that I have learned in some of my education classses at the university
ReplyDeleteI had heard of concept maps and some of the theories we went through. I had never thought about using concept maps to plan goals, which could be used with students to plan their futures beyond school and motivate them to achieve more. I will likely use concept maps to put all my ideas onto a page and visualize where I could go from here when it comes to pursuing my dreams and starting my career.
ReplyDeleteI already knew I am a very physical/interactive learner. I did not expect how much mind mapping would cater to my learning style. I began taking notes using mindmaps today and hope that I can continue to incorporate them into my own learning and into that of my scholars. As an English success coach, this could be incorporated through timelines or mapping out characters in a story.
ReplyDeleteHasan’s presentation on mind maps was REALLY helpful for the remainder of the day and to take onto to my students and also my college career. Sara’s engaging presentations helped with using knowledge and applying it to real life for a better understanding!
ReplyDeleteI used today to see how important audience interaction is. All of the activities that we had not only emphasized the lessons, but it also segmented our time sitting. Kept the class energized.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I learned a lot today about constructivism. It connects a lot with motivation in the classroom, since motivation is linked with feeling connected. I can apply it in the classroom by trying to keep students actively involved through physical movement and mind maps, and by asking questions to make sure they feel acknlowedled and kept up.
ReplyDeleteToday was very enjoyable. I believe I am more knowledgeable because of today's lessons. We learned so much about theories pertaining to being an educator and Peer Power mentor.
ReplyDeleteThe main concept that I am greatful to have been introduced to is concept mapping. I did not know what concept mapping was prior to today, but I can honestly say it is a tool I will attempt to use in the future. Its been a great day.
Today we learned about self-handicapping and how students will do this when they do not know how to do something as it relates to academics. Self handicapping can manifest itself in the following ways: not trying, setting unattainable goals, procrastinating, cheating, and more. This knowledge will help me in a peer power classroom because I will be able to identify these actions as self handicapping. As a success coach, I will need to figure out the underlying issue and provide assistance to that students to ensure that they are successful.
ReplyDeleteWe have gone over this before, but I'm always glad to get a refresher. I love learning about Expectancy Theory and Social Cognitive Theory as they are very important to a well rounded class. Its all abou helping our students become life long learners.
ReplyDeleteI learned about adolescent egocentricism . I knew of it, but I never really though about how it truly can affect someone until today. If I come across someone who is struggling with it, I will try my best to understand his or her situation and help them out as best as I can.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to utilize different theories in the classroom. Also, some children might reject learning or won’t out effort in because they might not have had the right encouragement to begin with. I feel like I can really connect with students experiencing this and help them through it.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to use concept maps as a way to organize notes and a way for scholars to take notes and retain information.
