07.09.208: Reflection Questions-
  • How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
  •  How did it extend your thinking further?
  •  What questions do you still have?
  •  Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

  3. Today we discussed body langauage and word choice, and the importance of being aware of these and how they will effect the students. I knew this, but talking in detail and giving examples of some SCituations where it’s important to be mindful in this sense, was very helpful!

  4. The expectations of success are values that I already had and understood on a self experienced level and not on a theoretical level. I enjoyed learning about the theories behind these social factors and how they can apply to my life and especially Success coaching.

  5. The TLC technique of being warm and strict reassured my previous knowledge that being warm all the time is not always the best . We have to care enough for the success of our students that we are willing to accept their slight annoyance at us for being strict at times and reminding them to stay on track and complete their assignments.

  6. I was very excited about the new TLCs and that I have been unknowingly indoctrinating them this whole time.

  7. I learned how to identify the different types of learning theories and when to utilize each.
I was able to place myself in the students’ shoes in regards to how they understand/feel about the content. I learned methods on how to communicate with them without seeming overbearing.

  8. I can apply the idea that people’s self expectancy has a big impact on how well they will do at a task. I can use this in my other classes and small tasks throughout my life. Go go empower rangers

  9. Parts of Dr. Marygrace's presentation today were very familiar with me personally. We talked about new TLAC techniques and some of it I was applying in my everyday life without being aware of it, and I also learned new techniques that I can apply in the classroom. I am hoping to especially execute Warm/Strict effectively in the classroom this year.

  11. Janki Patel:
Many of the concept we learned today I had learned in psychology class. I learned about social cognitive theory but in our sessions today, I learened about the in depth examples. Everything we learned in all sessions can be applied to how I can help out in a classroom! I learned how to interact with kids in a professional way to cater to their emotions. I’m reall thankful for all the new connections made.

  12. THE Warm/strict lesson is one that I should be more mindful of especially going into a new year. Last year I got to know my students well and I developed a relationship that was honest and sarcastic at times and for the upcoming year I need to be aware that these students do not know me as well and that I should not keep the same mannerisms as last year until those relationships develope.

  13. Something that I have learned and I have connected to what I already know: personal relationship building with the students.

I am not here to be an authoritative figure that tells the students what to do, but I am here to be a success coach to help students grow.

  15. I learned that I need to be strict along with being warm. That too much of one can leave the student down or with no respect to success couch. This tool can help me to better myself and to help students in a way that they will respond in a positive way.

  16. Today was a great learning day. I learned new and old concepts that would really help become a better person and mentor. I learned different concepts on how creating a safe space and communication for the kids as well. It was good to learn those things because kids need to feel that you trust them, but also strict with them. These concepts are also things I can use for my everyday life as well. It can me improve how I interact with others.

  17. Modeling is important for making an impact on the students, but today I learned that modeling is a constant process whether I am aware or not. We should be attentive that others are watching our actions.

  18. Although we've covered the social cognitive theory this summer and we have identified many parts of theory as things that we already practice, the addition of the emotional mindset fit really well with the social cognitive theory. For example, the technique for "Firm, Calm and Finesse" has components that promote positivity, whether that be in modeling good speech and behavior with optimistimism and kindness or in implementing the "confirmation glance" from across the classroom to encourage a student. The connection between the two allows for an even deeper understanding of the material; it was another great day of training!

  19. I have been using a lot of this techniques over 20 years of being in management/authoritative roles. For the last 10 years I have been working with young people, or high school students so it felt good to see that there is scientific reasoning behind my method of management. I believe these seminars will only help sharpen my abilities to communicate and inspire young people inside an academic environment.

  21. What I got out of today’s lesson was how it’s important to set high expectations and work with the students to reach that level of success that is required from them. All the methods that we learned are essential to apply in the classroom.
Thank you training coordinators for your valuable work.
