07.23.2018: Reflection Questions-
- How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
- How did it extend your thinking further?
- What questions do you still have?
- Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

ReplyDeleteI extended my learning today by being in the session with the teachers. I learned what was difficult for them and how they solve different situations. I also learned about sprinkling content to the children instead of clumping.
Learning about relational mindset was really good. I was able to learn how relational learning can help in the classroom. Also about how important knowing how to code switch (relate the content to something outside of the classroom) can positively affect the scholars learning. I also thoroughly enjoyed the science content piece. It was a great refresher and very engaging.
ReplyDeleteDuring the WES session, I learn about sprinkle vs clumping. This is usued as a refresher on content they covered the previous year. Many students are not on grade level or they might have forgotten some content over the summer. "Sprinkle" is the preferred method in which you include past and related content to your lessons. This is important and should be implemented in the classroom as we want to make sure that our students foundation (fundamental skills) is strong so we can set them up for success.

I was really excited to be able to sit-in on the WES seminars, I felt that I was one step closer to achieving my goal. Also, my second favorite subject behind history is science so it was a fun day for me.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the WEZ session was really cool. I was able to see some of the work teachers have to think about during instructional time, and noticed that they were equipped with instructional strategies similar to the TLAC techniques (some of them may have been from TLAC). Just having perspectives from the teachers on standards and how to be effective in the classroom put a new light to what we do here at Peer Power, and how we can infuse what we do with what the teachers want and need to get done in a school year. Ms. Williams was super knowledgeable and I am looking forward to more training with WEZ.
ReplyDeleteIn today’s WEZ session, we discussed feedback and the importance of building a relationship with the students. We went over a video and talked about different methods we can use to give constructive feedback. We talked about the proper time, manner, and method in giving feedback. It was pretty helpful. The science session was good because it included some things from chemistry that I personally enjoy.

Today during the WEZ session, I found out about iReady and the purpose of it and how it can aid teachers. It was interesting to know that it gives materials to teachers to help students thy may have fallen behind the curve. Also I liked how our presenter made the presentation fun and interesting while also demonstrating the different ways the teacher tool box in iReady could be used effectively so that the students benefit the most.
ReplyDeleteWe were introduced to some new TLC strategies! There were a couple strategies that were familiar in concept, but the one that stuck with me was "Effective Questioning Strategies". The questions we ask play a huge role in the lesson. I will adjust my questioning by "avoiding the pitfall of yes or no." It's so easy to slip into the self-report style of teaching, but I know that it will easier to adjust because I'm now aware.
ReplyDeleteThomas N. The cultural session this morning was very enlightening in that it taught us to obtain as much information as possible before creating a strong judgement.
ReplyDeleteToday we sat in on the teacher’s seminars. It was great to see what they were learning so that I can incorporate the lessons into my general knowledge and be able to apply it as a success coach.
