07.19.2018: Reflection Questions-
- How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
- How did it extend your thinking further?
- What questions do you still have?
- Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

ReplyDeleteI love hearing from our speaker today. I love hearing and knowing how mentors make a difference even after scholars leave high school. I learn from the skits how to handle some situations that I haven't dealt with yet.
Today was a kind of a special day. We had a guest speaker, Josh Hawkins, talk to us about mentor ship. This really helped me understand how mentorship is helpful not only to the student but also the mentor!
ReplyDeleteI always learn something new from our sessions, but what I believe I could use as a success coach in classrooms is incorporating the games whether it’s math or an English game. The concept of the games will help keep the students involved and participate in whatever lesson that has been taught. Also being able to understand and communicate effectively with the students are important and not just standing around in one spot. The students need to know you care about whether or not you are paying attention to them. Also the guest speaker, Josh Hawkins spoke about how mentorship helped him get to were he is in his career. It’s important as a success coach to build relationships with the students.
ReplyDeleteOur speaker was an amazing person. He had us all engaged and discussed mentoring and how important it is. The different sessions tied in to it as well. We talked about making and being the difference in a student’s life. Putting these situations into play with life problems was a great way to get everyone involved. Today overall was a great day with many different aspects that can be used as a success coach.
ReplyDeleteThomas N. Constructivism is a concept that I personally use frequently when tackling difficult subjects. So learning the conceptual basis for it was helpful and thought provoking. I believe that formal training of constructivism would be beneficial to high school level students on a federal scale.
ReplyDeleteToday I learned the importance of viewing the mentor ship relationship as a two way street. The relationship is not only about how I can help the student but how the student can help my own learning and betterment. I think this type of outlook can really expose the flaws or effectiveness of mentoring advice. Practicing what you are preach is important in making the mentor relationship strong and beneficial. If what you are encouraging the mentee is actually correct, the positive impact will even influence the condition of the mentor.
ReplyDeleteToday our guest speaker had us end the lecture with a practical application of mentoring students that were dealing with challenging issues. The discussion we had after each skit really helped because while you can think you did everything right in a situation, there are some things you don’t consider until someone else says “this could have been added”. I feel like this will help us tremendously when we are trying to navigate through difficult situations with our scholars.
ReplyDeleteSuccess Coaches are mentors not tutors. This has always been heavily stress. I am glad we were able to discuss this more deeply. I am feeling extra motivated. Also, on the TLC: Classroom Etiquette lessos, I was able to put a name to some strategies I was already using, and we went more in depth on how to successfully implement them as Success Coaches in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteToday was a fantastic day. We learned about constructivism and the importance of mentoring. The guest speaker today was an amazing and helpful part to the training. He was willing to answer our questions and I enjoyed how much he put into talking to the success coaches.
ReplyDeleteToday felt very engaging with the games and going over strategies to develop games, including why those were important. We were introduced to this with the math games, so it was nice to build on that knowledge. Yay constructivism! I enjoyed our guest speaker, Josh Hawkins, especially because he is an example of how everyone can grow no matter how successful they already seem to be.
ReplyDeleteThe highlight of my learning today is the mentor and mentee relationship, how valuable it is, techniques to have a good relationship, and I can use it everywhere in life... Thank you Josh Hawkins.
ReplyDeleteToday was a really great day. Josh Hawkins, our guest speaker, is very interesting and his thoughts about mentoring were really helpful. I loved today’s sessions because they included English, and the games were really fun. We got to learn about constructivism and classroom etiquette and it’s importance and effectiveness in the classroom.

I enjoyed today's guess speaker Josh Hawkins, and all the sessions we had through out the week. I could not help but to keep thinking of the Langton Hughes poem A Dream Deferred. For me the answer to that question was putting it (my dream) on a shelf only taking it back down, dusting it off and begin to feverishly chase it (my dream) again twenty years later.
ReplyDelete* We’ve covered so much in the last few weeks, will we be provided with the tools so we can continue to refresh ourselves throughout the school year? Of course we have our handouts, but I wasn’t able to finish all of the notes.
ReplyDelete* What are all the tools that we can use technology wise, that we keep are mentees engaged and will we learn how to use the most popular tools before we graduate?
I found the information about classroom etiquette today very useful. I believe that in keeping some of the things we were taught today in the back of my mind while I’m in the classroom. I really enjoyed the discussion/ information that we were given involving the difference between watch and actually observing the students in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteThe English games we played today were very engaging and great tools to use for a review session for any subject. The session on classroom etiquette was also very informative and helped me get a better idea of what my position looks like as a success coach in the classroom and what I should be doing. The guest speaker, Josh Hawkins, was wonderful! I really liked how he encouraged us all in mentorship and gave us a good idea of what it looks like to be a mentor to a student and the important role we play in their lives.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the classroom tlc strategies reminded me of how I used them in the classroom. It was nice to see and hear the explanations for why those methods work and why they are important.
