07.16.2018: Reflection Questions-

  • How does something you learned connect to what you already knew?
  •  How did it extend your thinking further?
  •  What questions do you still have?
  •  Think of one thing you have learned in class that you can apply in Peer Power classroom or another class or another part of your life. What is it, and how can you apply it?

  1. We learned about positive framing today and one thing that I saw that I do is telling students what they are doing well and praise that. I also go into each interaction assuming the best and being very patient with the students. I don’t want anyone to be confused and move about deliberately in the classroom to help those students out.

  2. Today's recap of the last week was crucial, it brought to mind a lot of things that I sort of didn't think about yesterday. I had a lot of fun doing the poster paper activity during teaching like a champion. Very enjoyable day.

  3. I really enjoyed Dr. Mary Grace’s class today. Reviewing notes and applying techniques to SCenarios was challenging, and it helped me see things that I already do in the classroom, but why they’re so important and how big of a difference they can truly make. They help build relationships and encourage students to be successful!!

  5. Today was a good review day.

I practiced some of the concepts and theories in peer acting. Today, I also enhanced my prior knowledge on these subjects.

  6. Today, I really stepped out of my comfort zone. We learned how to build a fun review game, or in our case, a fun rap to explain a concept. It’s interesting how much you can remember from doing a chant or song. In Dr. MaryGrace’s lecture today, we collaborated on our notes. I think these activities would be very helpful in the classroom environment not only as a review, but for scholars who maybe missed a day to catch up on the notes.

  7. It was good acting out different SCenarios to see what different strategies could look like in the classroom (warm/strict, positive framing). I learned how to break down math in a way to more easily teach it to students, like showing how and not relying on memorization.

  8. The confirmation glance is a great way for students to feel important and have a special connection with you. I knew it was important to have a connection with students and this will make them feel like you trust and believe in them. 901 Shelby drive

  9. Firm, calm, and finesse. I love how it all works together and everything is connected. Using universal languages makes the student feel involved and doesn’t seem like everything is an order.

  10. Today was really effective. We had the chance to review what we went through last week. It emphasized the lessons. We did different activities and scenarios that could happen in the classroom. In our math session, we got the chance to create a math game and we learned about several websites that can help us in math.

  11. I was able to use the concepts Dr. Mary Grace taught us about to see how I would use it in a classroom setting. I thought that using the concepts is a helpful way to make sure students feel motivated to try hard and complete their tasks. We also went over all of the learning theories and I enjoyed seeing how they connect to one another.

  12. The review sessions were very helpful in connecting and solidifying my understanding of the theories that we learned last week. Also, the math content session was very enlightening—I haven’t had much experience with using apps and technology in teaching and learning, and it is exciting to start to realize how many resources are out there for learners and educators.

  13. This review day really was able to put into context everything that we have been covering so far. We are able to put them into action and actual use how we would use these different strategies inside the classroom

  14. Some of the things I learned today showed me that there are somethings that i did in the classroom while working that has a name and a purpose in the classroom.

  15. I really appreciated the fact that training was extended to Mondays in order for us to further connect the concepts, theories, and techniques. The dance that we did for math was a more creative way to learn some angles, and it can be used in other classes too, which I think will be really useful. Also, going over the different theories and having a competition between all the leagues made the activity more engaging, and overall more enjoyable.

  16. Today I learned how to make material about math fun. In my group, we decided to adapt a popular song with information about circles to perform to our group. It was really fun and creative way to teach information about circles.

  17. Creating a rap for circles in the Math review was very fun and helpful because it helped me be more creative and step out of my shell to convey information to students. Realizing that adolescence egocentrism is tied to understanding Maslow’s theory helped open my eyes to the different things students go through.

  18. Today's reviews and activities were very helpful in reiterating the lessons. In the theory class, the coaches benefited from creating and talking through the concept maps. In the TLC session, the scenarios were a helpful tool especially for our first year coaches. They were able to apply the learned techniques in a practical way.

  19. Today’s review and practice sessions were very helpful in connecting all of the information and strategies we learned last week to each other and putting them into practice. Drawing out a concept map helped my group and I connect all of the theories and see how they were all equally important and correlate with eachother for the success of our students. It was also very helpful to create a song and dance including all of the math content we learned.

  20. I enjoyed today’s review session. One thing that stood out to me was in Dr. Sara Benson’s class when we made concept maps about the learning theories. The concept maps show how all the theories connect and are all important to be a Success Coach. It extended my thinking by showing me how understanding the concepts help us understand our scholars better and their needs.
